Cross-Country Skiing and Snowshoeing
Cottage Grove has many trails for snowshoers and cross-country skiers alike, whether you’re new to the hobby or an experienced adventurer.
Cottage Grove Ravine Regional Park has miles of multi-use, minimum maintenance and wonderfully packed trails. River Oaks Golf Course is regularly groomed and free to use trails are another great option! For those who prefer off-the-trail journeys, Grey Cloud Dunes SNA has acres of natural beauty along the Mississippi River.
Want to try snowshoeing or cross-country skiing but don’t want to commit to purchasing any? Cottage Grove has two locations for equipment rental:
- Cottage Grove Ravine Regional park has snowshoe and cross-country ski rentals for $5 for children and $10 for adults on a first-come first-serve basis for 3-hour time slots. Remember, you also need a vehicle permit to enter Ravine Regional Park except on the first Tuesday of every month. Head to the Ravine Landing building at the park to get your rentals!
- Oakwood Park has a self-serve snowshoe rental trailer that includes two pairs of adult snowshoes for $15 per 2-hour timeslot. Snowshoes must be booked in advance on the registration website.
For all the sledders out there, look to Cottage Grove’s Star Trail. The Star Trail consists of 140 miles of groomed, marked and maintained snowmobile trails in Washington County. Cottage Grove’s portion of the trail even runs right up to the local VFW so you can stop for a bite to eat with friends, or just to warm up on your journey.
